Dutchess County combines a sophisticated and artistic vibe along with a stunning backdrop of the Berkshire Mountains to the east, and the Catskills to the west. Residents of this area enjoy the best of both worlds: cosmopolitan elegance and rustic beauty. Easily accessible by train or car, Dutchess County offers outdoor recreation, festivals, historic landmarks, restaurants, and more to enjoy. In this charming country landscape, there are abundant family-owned farms, farm stands, and vineyards to sample and explore.

Poughkeepsie is a major city in Dutchess County. Set along the Hudson, Poughkeepsie has long been a home to breweries, restaurants, and entertainment venues. It features numerous farm-to-table restaurants and The Bardavon 1869 Opera House brings nationally renowned performers to the city, as well as the Chance Theater, which welcomes breakthrough musicians.

Poughkeepsie is also home to Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, the world’s longest elevated pedestrian bridge. There you can stand more than 200 feet above the Hudson River and take in the majesty of the valley. Your choice:  you can either run, walk or bike it!

There’s no shortage of higher learning nearby, with the beautiful campuses at Vassar College and Marist College. Plus, there’s rich history. Nearby Hyde Park is the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum. Also nearby is the Vanderbilt Mansion, which is an amazing example of the Gilded Age architecture, when wealthy captains of industry bought land in Dutchess County and other New York City suburbs.

Also of historic significance: the community of Clinton Corners is home to the stone Creek Meeting House, a 1777 former Quaker meeting place that keeps historical archives and hosts regular events. Just northeast of Poughkeepsie, Pleasant Valley is a residential community that offers many recreation opportunities at Cady Recreation Park.
